Experimental Staking Module – Design Phase Funding Proposal

Dear Kintsugi Community,

We respectfully submit this funding proposal to support the design and research phase of an experimental staking module aimed at unlocking new token utility and revenue models for the Kintsugi and Interlay ecosystems.

Purpose and Value Proposition

This proposal initiates a new innovation front for Kintsugi: an experimental staking module designed to:

  • Introduce non-custodial, modular staking logic tailored to wrapped BTC use cases.
  • Enable dynamic reward curves and customizable slashing logic, offering flexibility for future products.
  • Foster new DeFi integrations through staking-based security mechanisms.

This early-phase design will lay the groundwork for a system potentially replicable across other Polkadot parachains, with Kintsugi as the reference implementation.

Design Scope – What Will Be Delivered

During this phase, we will:

  • Conduct system architecture planning.
  • Deliver full technical specifications for the staking logic.
  • Provide UI/UX wireframes .

All work will be public and auditable, with no technical debt or development obligation for the Kintsugi core team.

Budget and Conversion

Total Design Cost: $3,850 USD

We request the equivalent in KINT, calculated at the 7-day EMA price of $0.177 USD/KINT, as of July 1st, 2025.

📌 Requested KINT: 21,751.41

Why This Matters Now

As innovation across Polkadot stalls under conservative treasury policies, Kintsugi can take the lead by funding modular primitives that offer long-term composability. This staking design:

  • Could evolve into a governance-enhanced staking economy for iBTC.
  • Prepares Kintsugi to capture the DeFi attention shift back toward staking yield and BTC-backed security.
  • Builds shared infrastructure that could be extended to Interlay or offered to partners.

This is low-risk, high-reward R&D—the kind of work Kintsugi can fund once and monetize across the network.

Conclusion

Your approval of this proposal will fund the first major step toward a reusable, innovative staking framework. The result: a modular staking design system built for BTC-native DeFi and future-proofed for Polkadot use cases.

We thank you for your support and consideration, and we are available to answer any technical or strategic questions from governance participants.

Kind regards,
The Experimental Staking Design Team
